One of the most diverse cities in Africa, it blends Indigenous, European, and Asian influences. Music, art, and street culture thrive here, and each neighborhood has its own unique identity.
In Xhosa culture, people are often addressed by their clan name (isiduko), a tradition that shows respect and honors ancestry. The clan name is considered even more important than the given name from one’s parents. When Xhosa people introduce themselves, they often use their clan name, which connects them to their family and heritage. Today, many Xhosa people live in Cape Town.

Community and family are at the heart of Cape Town life. Traditions are celebrated through music, dance, and festivals like the Cape Minstrel Carnival, which fills the streets with costumes and color.
Many cultural events reflect the city’s diverse heritage, from Xhosa rituals and storytelling to Cape Malay cuisine and celebrations.
