THE WEATHER
Best Time to Visit Greece
Greece has a Mediterranean climate with four seasons and hot, dry and long summers as well as mild, wetter winters. Temperatures vary by region, but expect plenty of sunshine most of the year.
Spring Season
March – May: Spring is short and sweet, with mild days in March turning into warm, sunny weather by late April. May feels almost like summer, with blooming landscapes, great hiking, and seas warm enough for swimming — all with lower hotel prices and fewer crowds.
Summer Season
June – August: Summer in Greece is hot and sunny, usually 28–35 °C (82–95 °F), with long dry days perfect for beaches and island hopping. August is peak holiday time for locals, and from mid-June to early September, school breaks across Europe make this the busiest travel season.
Autumn Season
September – November: Autumn brings mild, sunny days with fewer crowds and golden light over the islands and ruins. Temperatures are warmer than in spring, swimming is pleasant until mid-October, and prices drop after summer. By late October ferries, hotels, and tavernas begin shutting down, and November mixes sunny days with cooler, grey weather.
Winter Season
December – February: Winter in Greece is mild compared to most of Europe, with southern regions staying autumn-like until mid-December. January and February are the coldest and rainiest months. On smaller islands, many hotels and restaurants close, and ferry and flight schedules are reduced. A great time to experience local culture without crowds.

What month did I travel to Greece?
I explored Greece during different months like July, August, September and early October. I love traveling during the shoulder seasons (April – May / September – October) which means the climate in Greece is still warm and sunny with fewer crowds. But no matter what month you visit, Greece always has something beautiful to offer.

Food, Culture, and Traditions

Greek cuisine is all about fresh, seasonal ingredients prepared in simple, flavorful ways. From souvlaki and moussaka to salads with tomatoes, cucumber, olives and feta, each dish reflects the country’s traditions. On the islands and coasts, seafood is always a highlight, grilled with olive oil and lemon and served fresh from the sea.
Meals in Greece are never rushed. They are enjoyed with shared plates, bread, wine and laughter. Each region adds its own touch. With olive groves, vineyards and local produce everywhere, dining here is a feast for the senses and a celebration of community.

As the birthplace of philosophy, democracy and theater, Greece’s cultural roots run deep, yet its modern identity is just as vibrant. Mythology and the stories of the ancient gods still shape the country’s identity, from temple ruins dedicated to Zeus or Athena to their influence on art and literature.
It is also the nation that gave the world the Olympic Games, a tradition that still fits perfectly with Greece’s enduring spirit.
In cities like Athens and Thessaloniki, ancient monuments stand beside colorful street art and lively cafés. Pride in the past is matched by a strong sense of community that you’ll notice everywhere.

Tradition is woven into daily life, from Orthodox Easter celebrations to lively village festivals that stretch long into the night. The majority of Greeks follow the Orthodox faith, and its influence is seen in the country’s churches, ceremonies and religious holidays.
Easter is the most important celebration of the year, marked by midnight church services, fireworks and the cracking of red-dyed eggs to symbolize the resurrection of Christ. At the heart of it all is philoxenia, the Greek spirit of hospitality, which ensures visitors are always welcomed like family.
