THE WEATHER
BEST TIME TO VISIT COSTA RICA
Costa Rica has two main seasons: the dry season and the rainy (green) season. The climate stays warm and tropical year round, with temperatures typically between 24°C and 30°C (75°F to 86°F) along the coasts. Higher elevations like Monteverde are noticeably cooler. The dry season offers sunshine and easy travel, while the rainy season brings afternoon showers, lush landscapes, fewer crowds, and lower prices.
Dry Season
December – April: The most popular time to visit Costa Rica, with plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures. Perfect for beach days, surfing, and exploring national parks without getting caught in the rain. The skies are clear and the roads are easy to navigate.

Wet Season
May – November: The rainy season brings afternoon tropical showers, but mornings are usually sunny and beautiful. Everything turns incredibly lush, the waterfalls are at their most powerful, and you will find fewer tourists and better deals. There is even a mini dry spell called “veranillo” in July and August!

What month did I travel to Costa Rica?
I explored Costa Rica in November, which is technically the rainy season (but the rain was mostly in the afternoon, if at all) and everything was so lush and green.
Culture lives in every dish and every tradition
COSTA RICAN FOOD, CULTURE, AND TRADITIONS
Culture in every flavor
FOOD, CULTURE, AND TRADITIONS

Costa Rican food is all about fresh ingredients and comforting flavors, shaped by the land and the sea. Rice and beans are at the heart of almost every meal, paired with tropical fruits, fresh fish, and plantains that have been enjoyed here for generations.
From the beloved gallo pinto at breakfast to a hearty casado for lunch, meals here are about gathering, sharing, and savoring the simple things. You will often find yourself at a local “soda” (a small family run restaurant), enjoying homemade food with a fresh fruit smoothie on the side.

Costa Rica’s culture is a warm blend of Spanish colonial heritage and indigenous traditions, all wrapped in the Pura Vida (Pure Life) philosophy. Ticos (as Costa Ricans call themselves) are known for being some of the friendliest people you will ever meet, always greeting you with a genuine smile.
Whether you are watching the colorful Punto Guanacasteco folk dance, exploring colorful local markets, or joining a community celebration, you will feel the pride and joy of Costa Rican life everywhere. Family, gratitude, and living in the moment are values deeply woven into the culture here.

Costa Rica is a place where tradition and nature walk hand in hand. Catholicism plays a meaningful role in daily life, with beautiful churches and religious festivals bringing communities together throughout the year. The annual pilgrimage to the Basílica in Cartago is one of the most important traditions in the country.
But beyond religion, Costa Ricans hold a deep respect for the environment and each other. It is a country that abolished its army and chose to invest in education and nature instead. That spirit of peace and sustainability is something you will feel everywhere you go.
