Crete

Crete is the largest island in Greece, and honestly feels like a country of its own. It's divided into four regions: Heraklion, Chania, Rethymno, and Lasithi. You could spend weeks here and barely scratch the surface. It boasts an incredible diversity, from the ancient ruins of the Minoan civilization to majestic gorges and jaw-dropping beaches that rank among the best in the world.

I highly recommend renting a car to explore properly. Whether you are wandering through the Venetian harbor of Chania, exploring the historic streets of Heraklion, or walking across the pink sands of Elafonisi, Crete delivers an unforgettable blend of history and nature.

Paros

Paros is the perfect balance in the Cyclades, it has the stunning aesthetics and colorful energy of the more famous islands, but often with a slightly more relaxed feel. It is an island of beautiful contrasts, where you can find peaceful hilltop villages and then spend the evening in a lively fishing harbor.

I absolutely loved wandering the streets of Naoussa and the traditional mountain village of Lefkes. But unfortunately, I heard that Paros is experiencing significant growth in popularity and is becoming insanely crowded, particularly in July and August.

Let me tell you, I’m not a party girl and didn’t come here to party. I wanted to see if Ios has more to offer than just what it’s mostly known for, and it really surprised me. If you venture beyond the main squares, you’ll discover beautiful hiking trails, hidden coves, and beautiful views of the Aegean.

Legendary Nightlife – The main town of Chora comes alive in the evening with a buzzing energy, bars, and clubs if you're into partying.

Stunning Beaches – Home to some of the best stretches of sand in the Cyclades, including the Blue Flag awarded Mylopotas.

Historical Wonder – Boasts archaeological sites and is traditionally recognized as the final resting place of the epic poet Homer.

Explore Chora – Get lost in the capital of Ios with its whitewashed houses, narrow cobbled streets, and numerous chapels.

Santorini is probably the most dramatic and instantly recognizable island in Greece. Shaped by a massive volcanic eruption thousands of years ago, its towering cliffs and whitewashed villages sitting along the edge of the caldera create a landscape that is genuinely breathtaking, made even more iconic by the countless blue domed rooftops that contrast beautifully against the bright white buildings and the deep blue of the Aegean Sea.

While it is undoubtedly the most popular destination in the country, there are still ways to find magic here.

One of the greatest joys of traveling in Greece is island hopping, moving from port to port on the extensive ferry network. It is the most authentic way to experience the country, and for many islands in the Cyclades, it is the only way to get there.

While flying is an option for the larger islands like Crete and Santorini, taking the ferry lets you truly experience the Aegean. Ferries run frequently between the islands and offer amazing views along the way.
